Analysis of entropic and redundant features.

Gun's N' Roses-Sweet Child O' Mine

Redundant Features:

• Instruments-In the rock genre we expect to see instruments.
• Band Performance-In the video the band does a performance, either in a part of the video or during the whole thing.
• 80's styling-This would have been very predictable of that time era, the 80's rock image is well known.
• Band logo is seen throughout the video-The logo of Guns N' Roses is well known and it acts as a representation of them (Brand Identity).

Entropic Features:

• The fade in from colour to black and white.
• Some movie elements-We see the construction element of the video, which is very unusual. There are many clips where we see the cameras and tracks.

Aerosmith-Don't Wanna Miss A Thing

Redundant Features:

• Intertexual references to the film "Armageddon"-We expect to see this link because the song was made for the film.
• Clips of the band (performance)
• Generic Video-It's exactly what you would expect to see from the genre/artist as well as a film based music video.

Foo Fighters-Walk

Redundant Features:

• Artist is shown-We expect to see the artist/band, as it promotes their music video.
• Band Logo is shown-This is the brand identity, and we usually see this in rock music videos e.g. on the drums.
• You see the whole band perform.

Entropic Features:

• Long Intro-Usually we expect to hear music.
• Comedy Aspect-You don't usually expect to find rock videos funny, but this aspect is surprising of this band as the bands other videos are all just performance based.
• You don't see a performance until the end-Linking with the above, Foo Fighters videos revolve around the performance.

Duran Duran-Girl Panic!

Redundant Features:

• You do see the band members (only for a small part)
• Instruments

Entropic Features:

• Movie Style-There is a movie like introduction at the start, it tells us the production and who the band is.
• The main focus isn't on the band, they are only subtly featured-Women are playing the band members, which is a different approach to a music video.
• Sound-The first sound we hear is dialogue, which is unexpected as we expect to hear music.
• Interview-The band members are being interviewed throughout the video.
